Gig
at Scruffy Murphy's, Birmingham, 8th August 2002
"STEVE FRANCIS was an unexpected pleasure; I had no idea what was in store. My usual feeling when a guy gets up by himself with a guitar is to turn to the side and have a chat to ensure that I stay awake. STEVE FRANCIS was having none of that. After the first two songs he had my attention, and by the time he had done another two he had the room’s attention. He has a beautiful voice and he sung with such feeling it was impossible to ignore. The songs had a depth, character and richness that elevated SCRUFFY MURPHY’S and became a great start to the evening’s entertainment."

Reviews of first demo, 1999:
"He's got a great voice and tends to produce slow, melodic and thoughtful songs. I thought this tape was great because he knows how to sing with passion that doesn't come across as being forced or false in any way." ("Warthog" magazine, April 2000)
"Full of good melody ... a great talent." ("Blag" fanzine, October 1999)
