Sunday 13th October
A h, bit of a gap there, sorry. My computer broke, and ... the dog ate it. And then I left it on the bus.
So, what to report? Well, the EP's going well, selling steadily and getting good responses. Which is good. I know what, I should be sending it off to get more Press Reviews, that I can use to impress people with. Not that a good review is in any way a guarantee of quality; often things held up as being The Next Big Thing, or even just Dead Good, are often, Er, A Bit Mediocre. Usually, in fact.
Well, I guess it's inevitable to a degree that things that gain mainstream acceptance must inevitably have certain characteristics - not too odd sounding, fairly homogenous across an album (so as not to confuse people) , and preferably fronted by some good-looking young type.
T hat's me doomed to obscurity then. Not that I didn't know this already. Actually, I think I tend to be excessively harsh about the majority of the music-buying public - it's not that they demand homogenous-not-too-challenging music, it's just what they're presented with by the music industry. Let's face it, if you hear a track five times a day because you listen to Radio 1, then if it's a catchy tune then by the end of the week, you're going to like it, and I include myself in that. And I guess it takes an effort to seek out more obscure music, so if you just watch chart music shows and listen to Radio 1 or local stations with a similar playlist policy, then you're never going to hear all that other stuff, are you?
Likewise, I'm never going to have even an underground, cult following if I don't get out of Birmingham more and ply my trade up and down the country. In fact I've got two Jiffy bags with CD, biog and covering letter, all ready to send off. I've just got to get some copies of my photo sorted out, and then we're off!!
So, look out, rest of the world, here I come ... er, in a bit!
Tuesday 22nd October
Well, I've actually sent some stuff off for gigs! Oxford, for one, so tremble with anticipation, you Oxfordians! Go on, just a bit.
Erm, other than that, I've managed to have one of my forthcoming gigs cancelled; I was double-booked with a punk band. I guess they shouted louder than me, so it was me that got the elbow. Still, looking forward to this gig at the Wagon & Horses, primarily because it's a new venue to me, so it's quite exciting!
And vaguely planning to do some more band stuff as well.
There! What an exciting entry! Gosh, I bet you're glad you've read this!
